Looking Forward Looking Back

Looking Forward Looking Back

Released 1999

Looking Forward Looking Back is a second CD, a collection of tunes that tell a short story. It is the story of my return to NY City, some looks at love and the life of a musician – well… me. I wrote all of the songs and I love that they don’t sound alike – it’s a bit of a journey. The thread of course being my voice and my guitar style.” – KJ

Sitting on the roof almost half an hour sun’s gone down and it’s getting cold up here
I’m thinking ‘bout the truth, and how I fell for you
I guess I felt your music when I had the blues last year
Never been a city quite like you
Never been a city hurt me like you do
Never been a city quite like you
New York I’m reaching out to you
Want to make a bet, you’ll probably forget
Have one more cigarette -yeah you know this one’s my last
I can walk away, I can go west
You can be da big shot- I’ll forget this mess
We got a strange and crazy love
We got a strange and crazy love
Once in a while I can feel your smile
I can see the twinkle in your sweet skyline
Every body knows you, they see you in the shows
You’re my only home when I’ve got no place to go
Never been a city quite like you
Never been a city hurt me like you do
Never been a city quite like you
New York I’m reaching out to you
We got a strange and crazy love
We got a strange and crazy love
Sitting on the roof almost half an hour
Sun’s gone down and it’s getting cold up here
Sirens and the dog and the screaming car alarms
I’m afraid into the noise I’ve disappeared
Never been a city quite like you
Never been a city- undoes me like you do
Never been a city quite like you
New York I’m reaching out to you
We’ve got a strange and crazy love
We got a strange and crazy love
Ain’t this some strange and crazy love
Strange and crazy love

Strike the last thought from your brain, you know that anyone can seem insane
So I cry out once again, you’ll think me terrible by my refrain
Well I’ve got so much to do, I don’t think anyone is going to pull me through
Then I meander as I do and fill my little head with thoughts of what to do for you
I’m another year gone by, I’m a mystery, I’m a fly
I go crazy in my car, I’m a highway,
Don’t you know that I’m the star
That is why I take my love
That is why I take my love
on the side
When I’m lying next to you, I might feel comfortable or I might feel like a fool
I can dream some dreams about you
Or save the picket fence and play it cool
I’m another year gone by, I’m a mystery
Don’t you know that I’m a fly
I go crazy in my car, I’m a highway
Don’t you know that I’m the star
That is why I take my love,
that is why I take my love,
that is why I take my love
on the side
on the side
on the side
on the side

There’s a little tree that’s growing in a junkyard
From my window I have never seen, before
Well the autumn came as did the rain and turned that old treetop bright yellow
For a moment I thought I had seen the sun (shining in your hair)
Just a little tree, about the size of me I figure
When that storm passed through no harm to you, was rendered
Well I guess you bent while gales were felling giants
And still your little hat remained to see you through
( I think that’s pretty cool)
Swinging and I’m thinking about what you do to me
Swinging and I’m thinking yeah, yeah, yeah you’re like that little tree
Swinging and I’m thinking about what you do to me
Swinging and I’m thinking yeah, yeah, yeah, you’re my jelly bean

Now that I found you, please don’t go away
Don’t leave me wondering if your gonna stay
I have risen, out from under this pain
Seems we’ve been given a chance to love again
Now that I found you don’t you loose your way
I can love you in my quiet way
I can hold you when your spirit fades
Yours is the kind of life I could breathe each day
Yours is the kind of heart I’ve looked for everywhere
Now that I found you don’t you loose your way
Oh in the morning I would love to speak your name
In the nighttime, see you again
Well I could be wrong, but I think it could be great
Now that I found you, please don’t go away
Don’t leave me wonderin’ if your gonna stay
Love is seldom perfect, and it’s given to change
I’d be glad if you’d take my hand and try love once again
Now that I found you don’t you loose your way
My guitar well it’s burning and it’s asking me to say these things to you now
I told you I love you in my simple way
I could hold you when the sunshine goes away
But I think I would be understanding
Let me love you in my quite way
My guitar is on fire
Now that there’s something
When I was younger I could think of all the ways…
Nobody’s perfect and I m sure Id say I seem..the other day
Hear me out, hear what I’d say…
I have lived awhile pls let me love you in my quite way
And I could show you my guitar is burning and it’s asking me to stay telling me to say
Now that I found you things are ok

I walked backwards this afternoon
There’s no doubt you appeared
Wearing that grin let me in
I’ll be good I’m not scared –
Any longer
Sixteen days in a ballroom gown
I’m as tired as my shoes
Learning the dance of no chance, I’m invited to lose
Darling do you get the picture?
I got time I’m not addicted to your bitter love
Glad to know you think that it’s fine, fine, fine
Seems I was dancing much faster than my courage
Just the same I’d leave it all behind
Don’t under estimate the fist for the glove
Inch yourself back from the line
I’m going nuts, it’s a rut
Can’t we leave this all behind
Darling do you get the picture?
I got time I’m not addicted to some bitter love
Glad to know you think that it’s fine, fine, fine
I’ve been dancing much faster than my courage
Just the same I’d leave it all behind
