The Song Writers Notebook

The Song Writers Notebook

Released 2004

The Song Writer’s Notebook is a collection of sketches, of songs and arrangements by Adam or me. Essentially it is a live recording – a moment in time in a dynamic process of discovery. There is something so exciting about recording a song that is new or one that becomes new with the addition of another player. Make no mistake it is a risky kind of recording.

Your love is rain
My heart a flower
I need your kiss
Or I will die
My very life is in your power
Will it flourish perish no one knows
You not I
Agua de beber
Agua de beber camirada
The rain will fall upon the desert
The rain will fall upon the sea
The rain will fall upon a flower
The rain is going to fall
Let it fall down on me
Agua de beber
Agua de beber camirada

Wind will blow in winter time
You can philosophize but it won’t change much
Watch the red sun setting
There is a yearning that the heart won’t touch
Fill my head with empty dreams
With reams of rhymes and words, hard times and such
And still
My love is complete
Come on help me decide when to walk when to ride
Ride home with me
My love is complete
There’s no searching for signs, walk in peace by design
Ride on with me
Oh ahh oh
Come in from the wintertime
It’s getting pretty dark outside
It’s hard to see
Fools are born, full of wonder, hearts divine
Comes the day you’ll understand
That it takes so much time
And still
My love is complete
Come on help me decide when to walk when to ride
Ride home with me
My love is complete
There’s no hunting for signs, walk in peace by design
Ride on with me

I asked
What would I do without you in my life
You said
You’ll never need to know
Now I wonder
Where those words have gone
Love moves on
You were the star of
Every story that I told
Dream of dreams that were to unfold
Best of friends
Through an endless end
And now we say goodbye and if we meet again
I know all things must change
Some days rearranged (but I)
Never knew the day would come
And find you gone
With joy comes the pain (and)
Sunny days can turn out rain (and its)
Falling down on me before too long
Love moves on

I remember all the ways that I can see love in your eyes
I remember sharing sun and staring off at bright blue skies
Don’t be so anxious to love me at this time
My arms aren’t broken
They’re just hanging by my side
Don’t be so sensitive
It’s going to take a while
And don’t you know that I like it when you smile

Open your heart
Open a door if you can
There’s got to be more than three words that you can say
You said what three words do you want to hear
I said enough is enough
You said what three words do you want to hear
I said well ain’t you tough
Open your heart
Open this jar if you can
There’s got to be more than three words that you can say
You said what three words do you want to hear
I said enough is enough
You said what three words do you want to hear
I said well ain’t you tough
But can you open your heart
Open your heart
Can it seem like we’ve started
Something new instead of the same thing
Over and over again
You said what three words do you want to hear
I said enough is enough
You said what three words do you want to hear
I said how about if one of them was love

You can take all the tea in China
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
She’s as sweet as tupelo honey
She’s an angel of the first degree
She’s as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee
You can’t stop us on the road to freedom
You can’t keep us ’cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor bent on chivalry
She’s as sweet as tupelo honey
She’s an angel of the first degree
She’s as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

Holding onto a wing and a prayer
Closer, I feel I’m almost there
Supreme or sublime all in a matter of time
Reaching for the top
I ain’t never gonna stop loving you
I ain’t never gonna stop loving you
I’m tried of crying
Lonely tears of Pain
People dying
My heart filled with disdain
The brave, the strong who will sing their song
R&B or pop I ain’t never never gon’ stop loving you
I ain’t never gon’ stop loving you
Na Na Na
Maybe you’ve got a cross to bear
There’s an answer found within
Maybe hiding and you can’t tell secrets from yourself
You say you’re running out of time and time is doin’ fine
You’re just running from yourself
See words of love written in your heart
Everything you are you are
Reaching for the top
I ain’t never gon’ stop loving you
I ain’t never gon’ stop loving you
Na na na

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong
Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near.
Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there’s nobody there
What does he care
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong
Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong
Ahh look at all the lonely people

I have got so many reasons to smile
Sometimes I wonder, I wonder why
I have been spared, delivered
My problems seem mild
I am no ones mother I have no child
I have got so many reasons to smile
I may not have much money
But I can’t think of much I need to buy
I sing out in voices, too muffled to cry
Another mans burden, another man’s pride
We met in an airport
She was so young she seemed shy
Even in that new uniform
Still she looked like a child
I studied her posture, her high gloss shoes and her style
She had a little blue blanket
Somehow that made me smile
I asked if she was leaving
She said not for a while
I am still in training m’am
I’ve still got some time
I have got so many reasons to smile
When it comes round to Christmas
I still have to try
To remember the reasons, remember the light
We celebrate seasons, while the young people fight
I met someone’s daughter she was leaving that night
They fly like their fathers
They pray every night
We live with these questions for the rest of our lives
